The Future Cities Infrastructure Programme (FCIP) is a UK Government supported programme under the UK–Indonesia Melaju partnership, providing technical assistance to support Indonesia in developing sustainable, climate positive, and resilient urban infrastructure. FCIP focuses on strengthening project preparation, improving infrastructure readiness, and identifying appropriate pathways to help priority projects progress towards investment and implementation. The programme provides support across priority urban sectors, including sustainable transport, while promoting stronger institutional capacity and long-term infrastructure development.
As part of FCIP’s Year 2 programme, a number of targeted studies and technical assistance activities are being undertaken to address specific infrastructure opportunities and development challenges identified through the programme’s project pipeline. The DIY e-Mobility study is one of these targeted studies, building on the initial FCIP assessment of the existing e-Bus feasibility study and the Government of DIY’s broader ambition to develop a low carbon urban transport system. The study therefore expands the focus from e-Bus electrification towards a more integrated e-Mobility perspective.
The study represents an initial strategic stage in developing an Integrated e-Mobility Framework for DIY, focusing on establishing practical pathways for integrating e-Bus and e-Becak within the wider urban transport system. It explores potential delivery and commercial arrangements, transition pathways and supporting infrastructure needs, alongside institutional and governance arrangements required to manage and coordinate the integrated system. Through this work, the study provides an evidence base and practical options to help DIY define the next steps towards a more integrated, low carbon, and sustainable e-Mobility system.
