Implementation of integrated Low Emissions Area in Jakarta, Indonesia
A roadmap for pilot implementation of Integrated Low Emissions Zones in Jakarta which will provide a template for wider roll-out in the city.
Jakarta has been on a path to reduce reliance on private transport for more than 20years. TransJakarta was the first BRT system in Southeast Asia and is now the longest BRT in the world at more than 250km, 14 lines and 244 stations and is now a global standard of successful BRT implementation. It commenced operations in2004 and now boasts a ridership of more than 1million people daily. In line with the policy of DKI, there is a move to convert the bus fleets to electric by 2030 and theC40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) supported a successful pilot of 100 e-BRT in 2021.As a complimentary programme, Jakarta now wants to move forward with a pilot implementation for a low emissions area with CFF again providing key support. The initiative is part of a Breathe Cities Programme, a collaboration between Clean AirFund, C40 Cities and Bloomberg Philanthropies which supports cities worldwide tackling air pollution and climate emissions.
This project developed in collaboration between Techne Praxis, CENIT and Bee Group includes two key phases: Phase 1 – Feasibility Assessment of Kawasan Rendah Emisi Terpadu (KRE-T) or Integrated Low Emissions Zones, evaluating the opportunities and challenges of establishing an integrated low emissions zones in Jakarta; Phase 2 – Development of a Comprehensive Roadmap for KRE-T Implementation – setting out clear actions to achieve Jakarta’s clean air and climate goals. Techne Praxis plays a central role in translating global best practices into the local context, assessing local policy and regulatory frameworks, engaging stakeholders, facilitating workshop delivery to co-create solutions with key actors and supporting institutional readiness. As a team we are contributing to building a healthier, more resilient Jakarta, creating a model for cities worldwide to embrace sustainable urban solutions.
